Stop toasties and wraps flying apart in the air fryer

The fan in an air fryer is strong enough to lift the top slice off a toastie, unroll a wrap or send cheese and light toppings flying into the heater. You open the drawer to find your sandwich in two pieces and the filling stuck to the basket. The book shows a simple way to hold everything together, what's safe to use, where to place it, and what never to use.

Common questions

Why does my toastie come apart in the air fryer?

The fan blows strongly across the top of the food. A light top slice of bread, a loose wrap or grated cheese can be lifted and blown around before the cheese melts and holds it together.

Is it a problem if bits blow into the air fryer heater?

Yes. Bread, cheese or toppings that reach the heating element burn onto it and smoke, and the smell comes back every time you cook.

What temperature for a toastie in the air fryer?

Around 180 °C (360 °F) for 6 to 8 minutes, turning once, works for most sandwiches. Much hotter and the bread burns before the cheese melts.
